Letter: Seeking to contact soldier's descendants

I am trying to trace descendants of a Private George Griffiths 17312 who served alongside my uncle Jim Howells in the KSLI during the First World War.

My father has letters from George to Uncle Jim and we would like to be able to show them to George's relatives but we cannot find out any information about him.

My dad Robert is the youngest and last surviving brother of Jim (Thomas James Howells) and was born in 1918 at our then family home in Cleeton St Mary after Jim was killed at the battle of the Somme in 1916.

In a last letter to Jim dated July 6, 1916, George wrote that he was going to be discharged from Cheadle Hulme military hospital and returning to his home in Woodcote, Newport, Salop. We don't know if Jim ever got to read that letter as he was killed on July 15.

If anyone has any information about George, whether he was married, had a family to return to, or if you would like to read the letters, we would very much welcome any contact to libbyhowells@hotmail.co.uk

Alternatively, phone 07792 707442 or write to me at Caradoc, The Sheet, Ludlow SY8 4JT.

Elizabeth Howells, Ludlow
