Machynlleth will play host to thousands of fans of the classic fantasy tale who have grown to vast numbers since the books were turned into a series of blockbuster films over the past decade.

The man behind the festival is Mark Faith who believes between 5,000 and 10,000 people could be attracted to the three-day event from all over the world.

The American, who has been living near Machynlleth for the past five years, said: "I am a big Tolkien fan and also one of the bigger Tolkien book and art memorabilia dealers. I thought the general public ought to have a chance to see our original art and signed books."

The festival will be based in the grounds and mansion of Y Plas from August 13 to 15, 2010 and will include a variety of stalls, Tolkien inspired re-enactments and other fantasy related events. For more information visit www.festivalintheshire.com
