Wolverhampton streets put in new light
Wolverhampton Council's official photographer David Finchett will present an exhibition of pictures called Street Stories: Urban Photography In Wolverhampton at Wolverhampton Art Gallery from Saturday 25th May.
'Street Stories' is an exhibition of urban photography taken in Wolverhampton: a selection of light studies and compositions exploring the theme of urban spaces. The images have been taken over a ten year period, and according to Finchett represent the development of a personal photographic aesthetic.
He said: "The sunlight, captured at the right time of day, transforms an urban space; buildings are lifted momentarily out of neglect and dereliction, or a busy street transforms into a collage rich in surface textures.
"In these photos the environment takes centre stage and reveals traces of human activity."
Finchett was born in Oldham and moved to Wolverhampton in 1981 to study at Wolverhampton Polytechnic. He hasworked as the official photographer for Wolverhampton Council for 29 years. His exhibition runs until June 22.
