Telford-based The Rooz beat acts from across the West Midlands to be crowned Live Band of the Year at The Robin 2 in Bilston.

The group is currently recording several tracks for the launch of their debut EP in February and will also be performing a live session for BBC Radio Shropshire.

The youthful band, which only formed last February, is fronted by 17-year-old singer songwriter Louis Coupe, who appeared on the BBC's The Voice last year.

Louis switches between piano and guitar, 14-year-old Ralph Porrett plays lead guitar and Peter Davis, 17, plays bass.

All three are from Telford, while drummer Tom Russell, 16, is a sixth form student at Oldbury Wells School in Bridgnorth.

Tom said: "It was a really great night and we feel honoured to have even been here in the first place.

"We are genuinely shocked and humbled by the amazing support we have received since we formed in February."

The competition began with 57 bands at the start of September and The Rooz made it through to the grand final, which was held at The Robin 2, in Bilston, on December 17.

After an extremely tight battle on the night, the band, with a set full of original material, wowed the audience and judging panel.

The judges included Mark Stanway, from Magnum, and Spike, from The Quireboys.

As winners of the competition, the band will now perform at the Cambridge Rock Festival in August.

They also get three days' recording time at the M2 Studio, as well as several appearances at The Robin 2 during the year.
