TV chef Tom Kerridge to star at Shrewsbury Flower Show
He's the big new thing in the world of celebrity chefs – and today it was announced Tom Kerridge would be the star attraction at this year's Shrewsbury Flower Show.
Mr Kerridge runs the Michelin starred gastropub The Hand and Flowers in Marlow, Buckinghamshire.
But his star has risen dramatically this year with his own television series, where he has attracted a following with his infectious enthusiasm and his liking for "lush" food.
Show chairwoman, Donna Hamer, said: "Having Tom Kerridge at the 2014 Flower Show continues our aim of bringing top chefs to Shrewsbury.
"He is a great character and no doubt his enthusiasm for good food and his great personality will be a huge success in the food hall."
The show, which attracts up to 50,000 visitors each year, will take place on August 8 and 9.
The 40-year-old chef is renowned for his character and presence, warmth and an infectious laugh.
The former child actor, who once appeared in a Christmas special of Miss Marple on BBC 1, fronted the popular BBC2 series Proper Pub Food, which became a huge overnight success with excellent ratings. As a result of the show Mr Kerridge has written his first book of the same title which is now a best seller.
Prior to having his own show, he appeared on shows such as Market Kitchen, MasterChef the Professionals, Saturday Kitchen and has competed and won the main course twice on BBC2's Great British Menu. His signature dish is his take on a hog roast involving cooking pork belly in a bain-marie, which is then wrapped in skin and roasted. This is accompanied by a stuffed pig's trotter.
He will be doing three demonstrations on both Friday and Saturday at the show.
Previous celebrity chefs to headline at the show have included Great British Bake Off star Paul Hollywood, This Morning's regular chef Gino D'Acampo and James Martin, presenter of Saturday Kitchen and James Martin's Food Map of Britain.
