The comedian is returning to Telford on March 8 for a warm up gig ahead of his national tour later this year.

But demand for tickets caused the online box office at Oakengates Theatre @The Place to crash, leaving fans disappointed.

The 8 out of 10 star agreed to add an additional performance of his show, Working Progress, later the same evening and tickets for the 10.30pm show went on sale at 10am today.

A small queue of about 20 formed outside Oakengates Theatre at 9.30am as people waited for tickets.

Sue Young, of Telford, was first in line.

"I tried to get tickets last week but couldn't get through," she said. "I've seen him before and he's very funny."

Leanne Hingley, 34, of Hollinswood, was also waiting.

She said : "I didn't know about the tickets last week so I was glad he agreed to do another show."

Malcolm Hall, of Wellington, was sent to get tickets by his daughter, Lisa.

"She's at work so I am under instruction to queue," he said. "She's a big fan. She watches that 8 out of 10 Cats."

Denis Olenik, of St Georges, said: "I'm here for my daughter. She's seen Jimmy all over in Birmingham and Wolverhampton."

A spokeswoman for the theatre said that after starting with a few hundred tickets, within two hours of sales there were only around three rows worth of tickets remaining.

She said: "The phones haven't stopped ringing there has been quite a rush on, but we haven't sold out yet but I'm sure we will

"We have a long list of people to call back, we're doing it in time order."

It has also been announced today that Lee Hurst is the next comedian set to grace the stage in Telford with his show Things That Make You Go Argh on Thursday. Tickets are now on sale now for the show which starts at 8pm at a cost of £17 per person, or £15 for concessions (each including a £1 handling fee).
