Ludlow arts festivals make £50,000 even before box office opens

This year's Ludlow Arts and Shakespeare Festivals took £50,000 in online sales before the box office even opened, it was revealed today.

Online punters snapped up 2,000 tickets ahead of the opening of the box office at the entrance to Ludlow Castle yesterday.

Festival organisers are now bracing themselves for bumper business for the two extravaganzas this summer.

Another 23,000 tickets are available for the feast of entertainment which kicks off with the Shakespeare Festival from June 14 - 22 when there will be daily performances of The Bard's As You Like It .

Son-of-Shropshire John Challis, alias Boycey in Only Fools and Horses, will star in the production as Jaques while Coronation Street star Eric Potts will play Touchstone.

The arts festival will run from June 28 and be brought to a rousing finale on July 6 with a concert by singer and actor David Essex.
