Singer Aled Jones walking in the rain to help pensioners after Shropshire concert
It was a case of walking in the rain, rather than in the air, for singer Aled Jones after his show in Shrewsbury.
After he finished his performance at Theatre Severn last Monday night, he met dozens of adoring fans waiting at the stage door. Among them were 84-year-old Tom Wood and his wife Rosina, 83, who had travelled all the way from their home in Derby.
And after having a chat with the 43-year-old singer and Songs of Praise presenter, they set off through the heavy rain to return to their hotel room for the night.
"As we started to walk off, he shouted to us to come back," said Rosina.
"He then gave us a lift in his his car and he walked.
"I was shocked. He had spoken to us at the stage door and then as we started to walk off, he shouted to us to come back.
"It was so lovely of him to do it, particularly as he is such a big star."
The couple were staying at the Premier Inn on Smithfield Road and had been worrying about the walk back over Frankwell footbridge because of the torrential rain. "It was really throwing it down," said Rosina. "We would have been drenched.
"I am a huge Aled Jones fan and we had come to Shrewsbury as a treat to see him. I was very excited and even more so when he spoke to us at the stage door.
"We had waited for quite a while after the performance for him to come out. Then to offer us a lift showed us what a true star he is.
"He walked back to the hotel while we went in the car. He was also staying at the Premier Inn and met up with us in reception when he got back."
She added: "To be honest I have only just come back down to earth."
