They are stylists to the stars - but Shrewsbury hairdressers Royston Blythe and Nick Malenko have become celebrities in their own right with starring roles in the Real Housewives of Cheshire.

And as the hit ITV reality show came to an explosive end, the couple say they are delighted with how they were portrayed - and hope to be cast in a rumoured second series.

The pair are best friends with Dawn Ward - wife of former Manchester City striker AshleyWard - and have found themselves embroiled in bitchy exchanges with the 41-year-old former model and her well-heeled friends and accused of stirring up trouble.

But Nick and Royston, who run salons in Shrewsbury and Compton, insisted that away from the camera the stars were all friends.

Royston said: "Obviously we've had some arguments and fall-outs but that's life. These things happen.

"We've enjoyed being involved. I can't believe how many people have watched it and enjoyed it. We've had people coming into salon saying 'I saw you last night on the Real Housewives of Cheshire'.

"They are making a new series and we want to be involved in that," he added.

The reality show follows the champagne-fuelled lives of a host of glamorous women, including several footballers wives.

But it has seen the hairdressers argue with beauty salon owner Ampika Pickston and accused of stirring by fans who have watched them gossip with the stars.

Despite all the dramatics, the salon owners, who live in a £1.6 million mansion just outside Wolverhampton, are happy with how they been portrayed in the show.

Monday's explosive finale saw stars of the show come together for a dinner party hosted by Dawn, at Warford Hall.

Royston said off-screen they socialised with many of the show's stars who also include Tanya Bardsley, who is married to Stoke City footballer Phil Bardsley, Leanne Brown, wife of Sunderland defender Wes and stay-at-home mother-of-two Lauren Simon.

The star snipper has been tending to no-nonsense Dawn's tresses for a long time.

"I've known Dawn for many years. We look after her hair and her extensions. We are always in Cheshire and Liverpool. We will be going out with Dawn for a few drinks for my birthday on Saturday," he added.
