More than 200 people attended a special Christmas demonstration organised by Market Drayton Flower Club at the Festival Drayton Centre in the town on Monday.

Helen Smith, on behalf of the committee, said: "Tom Hodge, international demonstrator, captivated the audience, which was made up of members and visitors, with his beautiful and magnificent arrangements on the theme of 'the magic of Christmas'.

"The flowers were shown off to the best of their advantage, with a bit of Christmas glitz and fantastic colour combinations, giving the audience good ideas for their Christmas arrangements."

The next main meeting with a visiting demonstrator will be on March 21, with the theme focusing on 'springtime sensations'.

Market Drayton Flower Club was formed in 1965 and earlier this year members attended a commemorative event at the Festival Drayton Centre to celebrate its history.

The open demonstration by Nick Grounds, from Peterborough, was also held in aid of Severn Hospice.

The club now has 40 members and is appealing for more. Over the years, members have enjoyed various activities, including visits from expert demonstrators, workshops and coffee mornings.

The membership fee is £26 for the year. The group meets on the fourth Monday of every month at the Beacon Centre at 7.30pm and visitors and new members are always welcome.
