Trust to hold Dvorak concert in memory of maestro
Shrewsbury is set to host a concert in memory of the esteemed violinist Peter Cropper.
Dvorak at Twilight is being hosted by Shropshire Music Trust at the Maidment Hall, Shrewsbury, at 6pm on January 17.
Kate Hogwood, director of Shropshire Music Trust, said: "After a memorable performance of Brahms's Sextets last season the late Peter Cropper dreamt up this special programme in a local hostelry to perform for the trust this season.
"The Cypresses finds the lovesick Dvorak writing a series of miniatures for string quartet. The quintet for two violas was composed during his time in the United States, whilst there is really no sunnier piece than the A Major Sextet. Held in association with Shrewsbury School, this event promises to provide an emotional experience."
The concert will feature Mr Cropper's son, violinist Martin, as well as Ben Nabarro from Ensemble 360, violinists Robin Ireland of the Lindsays, and Louise Williams from The Endellion and Chilingrian.
It will also feature cellists Richard Jenkinson, of the Dante String Quartet, and Richard May.
There will be an informal talk by the musicians.
The programme will include Dvorak's Cypresses for String Quartet, String Quintet Op97, and String Sextet Op48.
Tickets, which cost £16.50 for adults, £8 for 25s and under, and £1 for 18s and under, are available on (01743) 367482 or ticketsource.co.uk/smt
