The Market Drayton Valentine's Ball saw hosts of couples mark the day with a dance at the Royal British Legion club in Church Street.

Organised by people in the town, Roy Aldcroft, mayor of Market Drayton Town Council, said the event raised more than £1,000 and was a huge success.

Councillor Aldcroft said: "There was some magnificent fundraising which took place at the Valentine Dance at the Legion. The event was organised by Dave Erwin and his team and was a fundraiser for the mayor's charities.

"Between prize donations, dance tickets, a raffle, an auction and matching funding from a local bank, the magnificent sum of just under £1,300 was raised.

"I would like to say a very big thank you to all the local firms, organisations and people who helped to make this night a success while raising funds for the visually impaired within the town and the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund Scanner Appeal."
