Video and pictures: Oswestry afternoon tea dance proves a huge hit
Organisers of an Oswestry tea dance that proved a huge hit say the popularity of Strictly Come Dancing was a factor in making the event such a success.
More than 30 people of all ages put on their dancing shoes for the tea dance at Oswestry Memorial Hall.
Beverley Galloway, who put on the event, said: "It was a lovely afternoon. Thankfully enough people came along to make it enjoyable. Some people even brought along their children, so it really was an afternoon for all ages. Everyone had a great time."
She added: "I've always enjoyed dance but I've never held an event like this one before. Now I'm hoping to make it a more regular event on a Sunday afternoon every other month because everyone seemed to really enjoy it and commented that it was on at the perfect time for them as it wasn't too late for work the next day."
Ms Galloway said she believes people's interest in dance has grown thanks to the BBC's ballroom dancing competition Strictly Come Dancing.
Ms Galloway is also involved in organising bi-monthly 'Salsa in Os' nights which take place regularly at Oswestry Cricket Club. She now plans to alternate these with tea dances each month.
With the help of some friends, she is also venturing into another style of dance and starting up weekly 'Lindy hop' classes from March 7 at Oswestry Methodist Church Hall. Classes start at 7.30pm. Lindy hop is an American dance that evolved in New York in the 1920s and 1930s jazz scene.
and originally evolved with the jazz music of that time. The Lindy hop classes start on March 7 at 7.30pm.
