The Bob Jones Memorial Air Show, which takes place annually at Welshpool Airport, will this year be held on Sunday, June 19, and organisers promise spectators are in for a treat with a host of impressive planes set to take to the skies.

The show committee today released the first part of this year's line-up which includes iconic World War Two bomber, Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress. For the first time the show will have an Axis aircraft from World War Two making an appearance – a Messerschmitt Bf 109. Continuing the World War Two theme, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will once more be displaying with the ever-popular Lancaster bomber, Spitfire and Hurricane, while the Breitling Wingwalkers are also back by popular demand, as well as the RAF Typhoon which finished last year's show.

Martin Evans, organiser and spokesman for the show, which attracted about 12,000 people last year, said he is "extremely excited" by this year's bill.

"To have iconic and historic aircraft the Boeing B-17 overhead in Welshpool for the first time is quite a coup for the air show. I can't think of any other reason why one would've flown over Welshpool," he said.

"The Wingwalkers are fantastic and the Typhoon is always amazing. The line-up is a really exciting one, and we haven't even completed it yet. There's more to come."

The Festival of Transport also takes place as part of the air show.

Mr Evans said: "We attract thousands of people every year and I think what we do is great for a little town."
