They included students from Shrewsbury's Belvidere School, Community College Bishop's Castle and Sir John Talbot's School in Whitchurch.

Eight books were shortlisted for this year's award.

The three authors who travelled to Shropshire for the ceremony were William Hussey, who penned Jekyll's Mirror, Julie Mayhew, who wrote The Big Lie, and Moira Fowey-Doyle, author of The Accident Season.

They all gave presentations about their books and later signed copies of their work.

But the winner of the Teenage Book Award, as voted by thousands of secondary pupils in Shropshire, was Jennifer Niven with her book All the Bright Places.

Sara Pritchard, School Library Service manager, said: "The pupils said they were buzzing at the event and meeting the authors brought the books to life."

Wednesday's event was organised by Shropshire School Library Service.
