Members of the British Driving Society were out and about in the Whitchurch area for the parade, which has been running for more than 30 years.

Participants met at the lorry park in Prees Heath at 10.45am yesterday before riding through Tilstock and then into Whitchurch.

They then moved to the front of the Tesco store at about noon, where prizes were awarded for the best Easter bonnets and decorated vehicles. A commemorative horse brass and rosette was also handed out to each driver, while Easter eggs were handed out to youngsters.

Organiser Dot Moreland said the event went well despite the cold and wet weather causing people to pull out of it. It had been expected that eight horses would take part in the parade, but due to a number of different circumstances, just four had turned out.

"The Easter horse and pony parade has been taking place for over 30 years. It is always a colourful sight," she said.

"This year's went very well. The weather kept dry once we got underway although it was cold.

"We were expecting eight and although only four turned out it was very colourful and everyone enjoyed themselves."

Two trophies – the Billy Cliffe Plaque and the horse of the day trophy – were also presented on the day.
