Watch out! There's a dalek about. Auction house expert Alexander Clement is more used to dealing with his speciality fine art. So you can imagine his surprise when this villainous lot came in.

The dalek is going up for sale and can currently be seen in the reception at Halls in Shrewsbury.

The gold and black sci-fi baddie is part of a huge collection of Doctor Who memorabilia featuring in a toys and collectible auction on June 1.

It belongs to a collector from Llandudno who is fascinated by the television series and has been collecting for more than 20 years.

Halls' toys specialists Stewart Orr is now beginning to catalogue it and other Dr Who memorabilia that is offered up for auction.

He said: "Although some of the items date back to the 1960s, a lot of them are fairly modern. Nevertheless, there seems to be an enthusiastic collectors' market for Doctor Who memorabilia.

"The full-sized dalek has created a lot of interest already and we expect it to sell for between £500 and £800."

In company's latest toys auction last month, a 13cms tall, clockwork Dalek, one of the first toys made associated with the popular BBC series in 1965, sold for £380. It was still in its original box, complete with accessories, key and working motor and was consigned by a Shrewsbury man who was given it as a child.

Other items which will feature in the June auction, which closes to entries on May 1, include two collectable pedal cars.

One is British made, modelled on a US Army Jeep and valued at up to £300, while the other is American made, modelled on a Spitfire fighter plane complete with wings and propeller, and is valued at up to £500.

The second part of a huge collection of Britains lead farm animals from a Welsh border collector will be sold in around 30 lots valued at around £2,000.

"The animals, particularly the horses and carts, are beautifully modelled and they exude 1920s rustic charm," said Mr Orr.
