Every dog has its day: All ale the new face of beer

A special canine-themed beer is being brewed once again for a major charity "dog day" this summer.

The aptly-named Hair of the Dog ale first went on sale at last year's Ludlow Dog Day, which saw thousands of dog lovers and their pets come through the gates of Stokesay Castle and raise money for good causes.

Now local businesses Hobsons Brewery at Cleobury Mortimer and Tuffins Supermarket at Craven Arms have joined forces to brew and sell the special bottled beer again, in aid of this summer's event organised by Ludlow Rotary Club - and the search is now on to find the face of the beer, with a plea going out to all dog owners to enter the competition with a photo of their dog.

Dog owners are invited to submit a photograph of their dog for the judging panel to select a winner who will feature on the bottled beer.

The bottles of 4.2 percent crisp pale ale will be sold at Tuffins Supermarkets with the company making a donation of 25p per bottle to the Ludlow Dog Day.

Harry Delves, commercial director at Tuffins, said: "We are thrilled to be teaming up with Hobsons and the Ludlow Rotary Club to help raise money for some exceptional causes. Our customers will love the competition and we can't wait to find our winner in May and raise plenty of money."

Kate Pearce of Hobsons Brewery, said: "It's great to have Tuffins as a partner and retail outlet for this special beer, we hope to get lots of entries from Tuffins customers and more importantly raise awareness and funds for the Ludlow Dog Day."

Dog picture entries must be submitted by 12 noon on the May 9, one photo only, portrait style, either in-store at Tuffins Supermarket in Craven Arms or by post to Kate Pearce, Hobsons Brewery, Newhouse Farm, Tenbury Road, Cleobury Mortimer, Shropshire DY14 8RD, or online at www.hobsons-brewery.co.uk/dogday.

The winner will receive a family ticket which will allow two adults and up to three children free entry on the day, and a case of Hair of the Dog.

The entry ticket will also include free parking and a free programme on the day.

Ludlow Dog Day, now in its thrid year, will take place on July 24.
