Treat for youngsters at Shrewsbury children's festival

Children are in for a treat this weekend with the inaugural Shropshire Kids Festival.

Organised by Beth Heath, who is behind Shrewsbury Food Festival and Shrewsbury Christmas, it aims to attract thousands of families to the town's Quarry Park.

From baby sensory workshops and chill out tents to Zorb balls and a water slide, the two-day event aims to cater for every young taste.

Beth said: "We are very, very excited about this festival. All the tents are going up in the Quarry and everyone who has seen it has said how big it is. I think this is going to be massive for Shropshire and it is going to grow and grow.

"The Quarry is looking awesome with the stripy tents and everyone is looking forward to it."

There will be four different craft areas for the under fives, a helter skelter, pyjama drama and an exotic zoo. Children will be able to learn how to look after a dog and see the work of the RNLI, police and fire services.

There will also be street food traders from pizza through to crepes and ice cream, a giant 75-metre water slide, a foam party, circus skills workshops and shows. Children can turn their hand to a range of craft activities with Compost Kids. There will also be a music tent and Get your Wigle On will be presenting a theatre school and there will also be a music and performance stage. For sporty youngsters there will be fencing, footballs skills and an inflatable obstacle course.

For older children there is a specially-designed tent which will include pool tables, a half pipe for skateboards and wi-fi and also workshop tents including dancing, languages, yoga, have a go at cheese making and much more. Tennis Shropshire will also be promoting the sport.

There will also be more than 40 retail stalls. Daily tickets are £6 for children (aged 1-14) and £1 for adults with under-ones free. Gates open at 10am until 5pm.
