Sport-themed garden in Whitchurch open to public
Gardens with their own woodland and sport-themed flower beds will be among the attractions opened to the public this weekend.
Three gardens across Shropshire will be available to view as part of the National Gardens Scheme.
The Croft, in Whitchurch, features herbaceous borders, banks of thyme, sunken hot spots, fruit terraces, bee and butterfly borders, shrubberies, woodland walks and a pond with a surprise.
People will be able to gaze over the Welsh hills at the six-acre Shoothill House close to Ford, near Shrewsbury.
It includes a small woods with swamp garden, wild flower meadows, tree house and several lawned areas surrounded by mixed borders.
There is a large Victorian greenhouse in the renovated walled kitchen garden, and a mature wildlife pond surrounded by species, trees and shrubs.
There is also a chance to view a multi-award winning garden in Little Wenlock.
Windy Ridge is a village garden which is two thirds of an acre.
The grass and perennial gravel garden has created a lot of interest and versions are now appearing in gardens all over the country.
The garden – which is the pride and joy of George and Fiona Chancellor – also sports colour-themed planting with more than 1,000 species, most of which are labelled.
The garden has been previously described as "stunning" and "inspirational" by visitors.
