Sci-fi themed scarecrow trail at Belle Vue Arts Festival in Shrewsbury

The scarecrow trail was part of the Belle Vue Arts Festival in Shrewsbury and certainly captured the imagination of residents.

Now in its 13th year the festival is running until June 18.

With space the theme of this year's event, those taking part in the scarecrow trail brought aliens onto the streets of Coleham and Belle Vue.

A more down-to-earth trail was the open gardens event, both held over the weekend.

One of the volunteer organisers Marie Jones said: "Everyone has done an amazing job getting involved in both the scarecrow and gardens trails.

"People have made some incredible creations, we are completely astounded as we are every year.

"The festival is a great opportunity for residents to get together.

"We must thank everyone who has been involved and made the festival such a success. The community spirit in Belle Vue and Coleham is really strong."

Events during the festival include the community art and photo exhibition and a host of children's and all age activities from sketching to 'An Eye on the Sky' solar viewing event with Shropshire Astronomical Society.

Tomorrow, there will be a pub walk that will give participants an alternative view of local history.

Those wishing to take part should meet outside the Seven Stars pub, Coleham, at 7pm and the cost is £3 per adult.

On Friday there is a singing workshop with local professional opera singer Jayne Carpenter at the United Reform Church, Coleham, from 7pm to 9pm.

Booking is essential as places, which costs £5 per adult, are limited.

Finally there will be a film evening screening the cult classic Galaxy Quest is at The Hive, Belmont, on Friday from 7.30pm to 9.30pm and costs £3 for adults and £2 for under 16s.
