Shrewsbury Flower Show 2016: Town almost ready
Seeds have been sown, bulbs have been watered and things are starting to bloom for Shrewsbury's 129th Flower Show.
The event, which attracts thousands of people each year, is less than two months away and organisers are busy making all the arrangements.
This year's Shrewsbury Flower Show will be held on August 12 and 13 at the Quarry and top exhibitors from all over the country are expected to attend.
Organisers said there will be fantastic floral displays, horticultural competitions and high quality trade stands.
Nigel Pearson, chairman of marketing for Shropshire Horticultural Society, said: "Things are progressing as normal bringing together a myriad of activities.
"Planning for the layout and trade stands has been going on since the end of the last show to a degree. When one show finishes, we have to find out what went wrong and what went right. So we start almost immediately on the next year."
A number of attractions have been confirmed for this year's event.
The large Quarry Marquee will be home to the top national nurseries and growers who create stunning displays to admire and inspire while the Severn Marquee will be full of home-grown flowers and vegetables.
Meanwhile, the Dingle will be covered with floral art creations. In the arena, the major attraction will be the Musical Ride of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment which will perform twice each day with 24 horses.
Other highlights will include Grade A showjumping, Dingle Fingle Comedy Car act and live music on Friday night from The Red Hot Chilli Pipers and from The Christians on Saturday.
Horticultural expert Sarah Raven will be sharing gardening tips and advice at the show, while in the dedicated food hall, celebrity chef Gizzi Erskine will create mouth-watering, indulgent and healthy food.
There will be a number of shopping opportunities in the large trade stands area and gifts on offer in the craft marquee and Artisan Crafts and Farmers Market.
There will be a dedicated children's area with ponies, ducks and chicks as well as a number of activities. For information visit shrewsburyflowershow.org.uk
