Paul Hendy, originally from Telford, found fame presenting shows such as The Disney Club, Don't Try This At Home and Wheel of Fortune, but is now the writer and producer of Theatre Severn's best-selling pantomimes.

His latest project The Last Laugh, a short film written and directed by himself, has been awarded the Best Comedy Drama Award by the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival Awards – an organisation dedicated to celebrating creative work from all around the world.

It focused on three comedy greats, Eric Morecambe (Bob Golding), Tommy Cooper (Damian Williams), and Bob Monkhouse (Simon Cartwright) as they meet in a theatre dressing room, and discuss, comedy, life and everything in between.

The Los Angeles Independent Film Festival Awards arranges special screenings to give American audiences a chance to see films from other countries and cultures, and prides itself on promoting and celebrating new talents.

Mr Hendy's film was chosen this month to be a part of the group's line-up.

The success doesn't mean Mr Hendy will be abandoning Shropshire for California, as he's joined by the rest of the team at Evolution Pantomimes in working hard on bringing this year's pantomime Cinderella to Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury.

Last year's show Dick Whittington sold more than 38,000 tickets, and tickets for this year's pantomime are already in high demand.
