Video and gallery: Donnington resident's garden turns into local attraction
Jane Hart has turned her ordinary garden into something of a local attraction.
With giant gnomes and an array of ornaments ranging from frogs to flowerpot men, it is an oasis of colour and fun.
In fact, it isn't unusual for the 56-year-old to welcome strangers who want to take a closer look.
It has taken Jane 20 years to build up a collection of more than 200 ornaments, from garden centres and car boot sales.
She has the seven dwarfs, scarecrows, meerkats, elephants, ducks, princesses and flower windmills – along with the traditional gnomes.
And many of them light up, creating a show at night.
And the ornaments are framed by scores of shrubs and colourful bedding plants that create a wonderful summer show at her home in Donnington, Telford.
She said: "I do it because I love it. I haven't ruled out holding an open garden event perhaps in aid of a good cause. But that's for the future. I still feel there is lots more I can do with it."
From fairies to flamingoes, gnomes and frogs – Jane's garden has it all.
With blooms trailing from hanging baskets and tucked into flower pot men, this oasis is attracting plenty of admirers.
Keen gardener Jane Hart, who also works as a cleaner, created the ornamental feast at her home in School Road, Donnington, two decades after she first moved in.
And it is so popular that she often has strangers knocking on her door asking for a closer look.
Her fuschias, geraniums, snap dragons and bergonias overhang an array of stone ornaments in various designs, including animals.
"I started working in the garden three years ago," she said. "I have more than 200 items in it and they are all my favourites. I get children, the elderly and middle-aged people stopping by to ask if they can come to take a closer look at my garden. A lot of them I don't even know. Sometimes passerbys knock on the door to ask if they can come and take pictures.
"It puts a smile on their faces and when I see that, it also makes me very happy as well. It's my hobby. Recently a man asked if he could bring his grandmother. When she walked in she had tears in her eyes and said it was like a scene from Alice in Wonderland. I'm pleased to say not one of the displays have been tampered with since I started it. I get a lot of the things I use from car boot sales which cost no more than £1 to £3 each, and from a garden centre which costs a bit more, but I always haggle to keep the cost down.
"I moved here 21 years ago when my son Ashley was a baby. The garden was a jungle and I was never able to afford to do it up. About three years ago I got made redundant from a previous job and I invested some of my settlement into replacing the fencing. I had some of the lawn dug up and laid it with gravel before using concrete to secure the larger ornaments in the ground. I'm 56 and at my age I thought it was best to have a garden that would be low maintenance so that's why I went for the gravel surface. Some of the statues are fitted with solar panels and light up at night. There are hundreds of lights in my back garden. It's lovely at night.
"It's great. When I come home from work I do my chores then I come and work in the garden for three to five hours at a time. It takes about an hour to water the plants."
Displays in Jane's Garden include the Seven Dwarfs, scarecrows, flower pot men Bill and Ben, meerkats, elephants, ducks, princesses and flower windmills.
