The Flax Mill in Ditherington will be staging a number of events to entice people in to find out more about the building, which is in the process of being restored by English Heritage.

Visitors to the mill, which opened in 1797, will be able to join in with guided tours, climb to the top of the Jubilee Tower, go to the newly opened visitor centre and view works of art by a local art group.

There will also be activities for children and live music.

Alan Mosley, from the Friends of the Flaxmill Maltings, said: "This promises to be one of our most successful open weekends yet with something to catch the attention of all the family and all interests.

"Many will be able to enjoy our newly opened visitor centre and join one of our highly acclaimed guided tours of the world's first iron framed building, including a climb to the top of the Jubilee Tower.

"A highlight will be an art exhibition curated by Participate Contemporary Artspace. There will also be activities for children including magic shows with Rob Chapman."
