Oswestry Youth Music Festival was held in 1977 as a one-off event to celebrate the Queen's Silver Jubilee.

The event has gone on to attract ever increasing numbers of singers and musicians over four decades, becoming one of the biggest events of its type in the region.

Next year's event will be held from March 2 to March 5 with competitions in Christchurch and Oswestry Methodist Church. The youngest competitor last year was Bertie Jones, five.

Festival director Sue Turner said the syllabus for 2017 was available and urged schools and music groups to take part.

"Last year entry numbers increased significantly and we thank everything for their continued support," she said.

"It is good to know that when other festivals are closing, ours continues to grow and develop.

"In order to mark our 40th birthday we are planning a concert on March 4 to which which previous winners have been invited to come back and perform, along with Porthywaen Band."

She said the concert would also be raising funds for the CLIC Sargent charity. Visit the Oswestry Youth Music Festival Facebook page for more details.
