Money raised at this year's Telford Charity Fancy Dress Fun Run will go towards Midlands Air Ambulance and organisers are hoping for even more entries than last year.

The event will be on December 4 at Telford Town Park, featuring special guest athlete Dave Heeley, the first blind person to complete seven marathons in seven days on seven different continents.

Fun run chairman Chris Pettman said: "We have almost 40 participants already registered to take part which is brilliant.

"We are keen to get the ball rolling and to let supporters know the date. It is also very important that people realise that this year they have to bring their own costumes.

"For several years we held a Santa Run for which the clothes are supplied.

"We have decided to try something a little different this year to move the event forward so we've gone for a fancy dress run instead.

"Last year 250 people took part, but we're hoping the wider awareness of the air ambulance will attract scores more."

This year's event sponsor is Telford Cycle Experience with support also coming from the Park Run group.

Participants are urged to register early for £5 per adult via the Friends' website as the cost will increase to £20 on the day.

There is no charge for children under 16 accompanied by a registered adult but all entrants will be expected to raise at least £20 each. Christmas-themed or any kind of fancy dress will be welcomed, as are walkers, children in pushchairs, wheelchairs and dogs.

Free mince pies and a warm cup of mulled fruit punch will be served.

Registration starts at 10.30am at the visitor centre followed by a fun warm-up with fitness instructor Jo Burt.

At noon the mayor of Telford & Wrekin Councillor Rae Evans will start the run which features two routes.

There will be a 4.5km race for those with fast times and a leisurely run for everyone else of about 1.5km.

Both will see runners pass part of Southwater lake.
