Dozens of events will be held across the region, with up to 8,000 expected at Weston Park on Sunday alone.

In Oswestry, the annual bonfire and fireworks display will take place on Saturday, from 6pm, at Brogyntyn Park.

The event, organised by Oswestry Town Council and the Treble Niners, is now into its second decade and has raised more than £40,000 for good causes. Extra fireworks have been bought for this year and organisers have promised the biggest display in memory. Entrance is £5 for adults and £1 for children. John Davies, leader of the Treble Niners, said "The atmosphere is always most enjoyable and, by bringing the community together, we help raise funds for good causes and those less fortunate."

A huge firework display provided by the same firm responsible for displays at the Olympic Games and London's New Year celebrations will take place in Shrewsbury.

Organisers of the West Mid Showground Fireworks and Bonfire Spectacular say it promises to be bigger than last year's. The event will be held on Saturday and there will also be

a funfair, live music stage and food and drink stalls. Gates open at 5pm with fireworks starting at about 7.30pm.

Dearnford Lake's fireworks night, near Whitchurch, will be held on Saturday.

Fireworks will be set off across the lake and there will also be a funfair and outdoor catering. A sound-sensitive display will start at 7pm for younger children with no loud bangs before the main display begins at 8pm. Gates open at 5pm, with the bonfire being lit at 6pm.

In Church Stretton the annual display will take place at the Rectory Wood and Field on Saturday, from 5pm.

Craven Arms Young Farmer's annual bonfire night will be on Tuesday at Bache Farm courtesy of the Williams family. The bonfire will be lit at 7pm.

Blists Hill Victorian Town will also get in on the act on Saturday from 6pm.
