The star headed to the venue yesterday to ski with Madeley Academy pupils. He then competed at ski jumping against members of the public on the Nintendo Wii inside the lodge, before taking part in a question and answer session about his career.

Edwards, whose life was depicted in the hit movie this year of the same name, said he remembered skiing at the centre in Madeley when he was younger.

The 52-year-old, who comes from Cheltenham, said: "The last time I was here was about 15 years ago. It's nice to come back and see how things have changed. It's great skiing with all the kids."

Year 10 Madeley Academy pupil Charlotte Neal said it was great to meet the star. The 14-year-old, of Madeley, said: "It was really cool to meet him. He's really friendly. He was telling us how he got into skiing. "

Charmaine Adams, head of PE at Madeley Academy, said: "It's fantastic that he's come. The children

were really keen to come down and ski with him, especially with his movie being out this year."

Eddie was also a guest speaker at the Energize Awards at Telford's International Centre last night.
