Donnington bonfire to go off with a bang
The rest of us have seen Bonfire Night come and go – but in Donnington the fun is yet to come.
The 35th annual Donnington Bonfire is set to be the biggest yet, with more than 10,000 people expected, organisers said.
Organiser Mark Mitchell said the event has received more than 200,000 likes and shares on social media.
He said: "We've had that much response through social media.
"We can only get so many in so people need to get there early.
"If the weather is fine I think we are going to have record numbers.
"It is the biggest one day funfair in Great Britain, and it'll be the biggest bonfire and firework display in Shropshire.
"There will also be food and refreshment stalls, on site security and toilets, everything is there that they need.
"We're expecting 10,000 people or more so when the wristbands are sold, they're sold, we won't be letting anyone else in.
"It's going to go crazy on the day."
Hundreds of pallets have been collected and are now being stacked up ahead of the event on Saturday. Mark said: "I've been organising this since last year. I start just after the last one so I've been sorting it all for months and months.
"It's been in our family for 35 years, a long time now so we definitely have experience."
Entry is £2 for adults and free entry for children under one metre tall.
The gates open at 4pm, fire works start at 7pm, the bonfire will be lit at 8pm then the grand finale firework display will be at 9pm.
Tickets are being sold on the gate on the day.
