Christmas shoppers across Shropshire offered free parking

Council officials are offering free parking for shoppers in the run-up to Christmas day.

Shropshire Council will be opening up some of Shropshire's car parks for free in time for late-night shopping.

The free parking will be on offer in some of Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth, Whitchurch, Telford and Oswestry's car parks on certain days.

In Whitchurch people will be able to park for free at the following car parks; Newtown, Castle Hill, St John's Street, Pepper Street and Brownlow Street from 2pm until 6pm on Saturday, November 26.

On that day there will be an indoor and outdoor Christmas market from 10am to 6pm in Whitchurch town centre, with a variety of gifts, crafts, dance performances, live music and hot food stalls.

The town will play host to Father Christmas and there will be children's fairground rides in the Bullring and late night shopping for local businesses.

St Alkmund's Church crib festival will also take place on the day, as well as St John's Church Christmas fair in the Civic Centre's main hall and Christmas crafts in the library from 10am to 12 noon.

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council's Cabinet member for highways and transport, said: "I hope people take advantage of this offer and make this an extra special day for the town, and for its businesses."

Shrewsbury will have late-night shopping on Wednesdays until December 21.

People can park for free in Frankwell Main car park, St Julian's Friars car park and Abbey Foregate car park, from 4pm.

Meanwhile Telford Shopping Centre will continue to offer free parking on Thursday evenings for late night shopping in the run-up to Christmas

Also Oswestry Town Council has agreed to offer free parking in its car parks from 2pm onwards, from December 12 through to Christmas Eve.

The car parks operated by Oswestry Town Council are central car park, Horsemarket and Argos/M&S.

In Bridgnorth the free parking will be available from 2pm this Friday for the Christmas light switch on and from 4pm on Thursdays until December 22.

In Ludlow, there will be free parking in the town's main car parks from noon onwards on the annual "Tinsel Tuesdays", on December 6, 13 and 20.
