A Ferris wheel has been spinning in Southwater this weekend as thousands of people enjoyed Telford's first European Christmas Market.

Shropshire Star photographer Jamie Ricketts captured the funfair in full effect, as organisers said they have had to order in more supplies to cope with demand.

With more than 30 stalls the Telford & Wrekin Council-run market has transformed Southwater with the sorts of festive gifts and foods usually only available in cities like Birmingham and Liverpool.

Businesses were having to put in orders for more supplies. The Schwenker Grill had to order 10,000 more Bratwurst after the first day's trading.

Russell Griffin, spokesman for Telford & Wrekin Council, which organised the market, said: "We have had great feedback from the visiting public, they are clearly delighted and many people have said they hope it becomes an annual event."

The market will be open until December 23 and will be open from 10am to 7pm, Sunday to Wednesday, and 10am to 9pm, Thursday to Saturday.
