A mother who was taken on tours around Powis Castle has written a book based on its grandeur for parents to read to children at bedtime.

Lucy Sadler, 34, whose parents Les and Heather Davies live in Welshpool, said: "My uncle David, who was a volunteer at the castle for many years, used to take me on tours around the castle and gardens as a little girl and I have lovely memories of those times.

"I've loved reading books to my daughter, even when she was a few days old and feel it's really important for children.

"As a mother myself now, with a two-year-old daughter, Willow, I wanted to write and illustrate a story I could read to her and that other families could enjoy too."

Lucy started writing Twilight Cat & The Red Castle a year ago, about Twilight the Cat, who lives in the woods with a witch behind Bron y Buckley in Welshpool. Each day he stares up at the castle and dreams of making something of himself so he can live among the riches within its walls.

One day he makes it but when he has all the fortune he desires he finds it is not all that he expected.

Lucy said she wanted to focus on Welshpool because it was the place where she grew up and she knows it better than anywhere. Her brother Sam is helping her promote it.

"I worked at the castle during my gap year in the offices, front-of-house and at the restaurant, so I felt I knew it well enough to write about it in detail," she said. "I wanted to write a story with a moral that you must always appreciate what you have and so, quite quickly, I thought about a witch and her cat."
