No Carols in Southwater this year
There will be no Carols in Southwater event in Telford this year, council bosses have revealed.
The event, which was hosted in conjunction with BBC Radio Shropshire, has proved popular and drawn crowds of hundreds in the last two years since its inception.
But council chiefs said there were plenty of other things going on in the borough to tickle people's festive fancies.
Telford & Wrekin Council spokesman Russell Griffin said: "We don't have a formal carols event in Southwater this year as we have the European Christmas market, which is proving hugely popular.
"The Christmas market is featuring regular performances by school choirs which include a range of carols.
"There has already been a Civic Carol Concert on December 1 at Oakengates Theatre @ The Place.
"This free event was attended by more than 500 people and included prayers, readings, live music and many familiar carols."
Mr Griffin said BBC Radio Shropshire had broadcast its entire Drivetime show from the Christmas market on Thursday night.
He added: "There is also a number of festive events run by our town and parish council partners include Christmas lights switch-ons in Wellington, Dawley and Ironbridge."
