Rodington Vineyard has won prizes in the English and Welsh Wine of the Year Competition.

Jai Chahal, who runs the business with his brother Sagreev Dev Chahal and father Ram Dass Chahal, said his family had always had a passion for farming.

He said: "We were awarded two prestigious trophies for our Rodington Rosé 2014, my personal favourite and our Rodington White Solaris Ortega 2014." Set up just outside Telford, the first grapes were planted at the farm just seven years ago.

The vineyard was set up in 2009, when they planted the grapes, but officially opened only in October.

It sells its products under the Blue Tractor label – a label chosen as a tribute to the one piece of machinery on the land when Mr Chahal's parents first bought it.

Mr Chahal said he was inspired to start a vineyard because of the quality of the land.

Rodington was also awarded a number of silver, bronze and high-commendation awards for its wines.

They include bronze medals for

Rodington Bacchus and Rondo 2014. Others wines picked up the Welland Valley Trophy and the Wroxeter Trophy.

Mr Chahal added: "So it has been a very good year and we now look forward to 2017."
