The Voice's Capital B Shropshire star in university show
A singer from Shropshire who is currently appearing on The Voice UK has signed up to be in a theatre show, together with her bandmate.
Zoe Hedge, from Bishop's Castle, is half of duo Capital B, which made it through to the next stage of the ITV reality TV show in recent weeks, working under the mentorship of Sir Tom Jones.
But though it means exciting times – and possibly lots of hard work – for Zoe, 21, and bandmate Ebony Wilson, 20, from Smethwick, the pair are also now preparing to star in a new production that celebrates the life of theatre director, entrepreneur and the founder of Birmingham Repertory Theatre, Sir Barry Jackson.
Two students, who both attend Birmingham City University, will be part of the Routes Theatre Company, made up of final year applied performance students who will be staging the show Déjà Vu – A tribute to Sir Barry Jackson.
The production will tell the story of Sir Barry's life and reveal the revolutionary elements of his experimental theatre, which first opened in 1913 and opens tomorrow as part of the APP/titude festival. There will also be a performance on Friday.
Zoe and Ebony met on their first day as students at Birmingham School of Acting, part of Birmingham City University in 2014.
After singing together since, Zoe persuaded Ebony to audition for The Voice UK with her last year and the pair wowed the superstar judges in their blind audition as Capital B.
