Whitchurch is set to follow in the footsteps of places such as Shrewsbury and Market Drayton by holding its own 10k run.

Hosted and organised by the town's Sir John Talbot's School, it will take place on April 9 at 10am with Macmillan Cancer Support benefitting from a minimum of 50 per cent of race profits.

Starting and finishing at the school, the road race will take a route around the historic market town, showcasing shops, parks and local amenities.

Road closures will be in place for a short time for the safety of runners. Fun runs and family activities will also be on offer in the school grounds from 9am.

Prize money will be awarded to the top three fastest males and females on the day.

David O'Toole, Sir John Talbot's headteacher, said: "Sport and healthy lifestyles are extremely important to us at Sir John Talbot's school.

April 9th promises to be activity packed with both the 10k run for anyone aged 15 years plus and a variety of shorter fun runs for younger age groups."

The school is now appealing for people to help on the day. Entry fee is £12 for UKA Affiliated runners and £14 for non-affiliated runners. More information at www.sirjohntalbots.co.uk
