The event, the fourth to be held annually, was organised by the Polish Saturday School charity.

Due to increased interest, it was the first to be held at Little Wenlock Village Hall, after outgrowing its previous home in Wellington.

Guests enjoyed three dances by children and volunteers from the charity, who donned traditional Polish outfits.

There was also music by a live band and volunteers brought in three courses of home-made food.

There was a presentation about Polish history and tourism, a raffle and a quiz about the country. The event is organised by the Polish community but welcomes in mostly English people, in a bid to show them more about Polish culture.

The organisers also invite local VIPs, mayors and councillors to share in the festivities.

Piotr Sobilo, from Wellington helped to organise the event.

He is part of the Saturday School, which runs Polish language classes at HLC in Hadley. At the moment it has about 160 pupils and first started back in 2010 in the former Blessed Robert Johnson School in Wellington.

Mr Sobilo said:

"It is nice to be able to share our culture and welcome people because we are very much a community."
