The Test Match Special commentator will be coming to Shipton Hall, in Much Wenlock, on May 8.

He was a fast-bowler for Leicestershire from 1979 to 1990, and briefly in 1992. He was named as one of the five Cricketers of the Year by Wisden Cricketers' Almanack in 1988.

While still playing, he began a career in cricket journalism and commentary and has now been on the air for more than 25 years.

He was appointed MBE in the New Year Honours for services to broadcasting.

Agnew, fondly known as Aggers, joined BBC Radio Leicester after retiring from cricket and then moved onto the BBC's Test Match Special.

His suggestion that Ian Botham had failed to "get his leg over" was voted the greatest sporting commentary ever in a poll.

An evening with Aggers will take place from 7.30pm for an 8.30pm start.

The event costs £25 which includes a drinks reception and canapés, and is in aid of St James' Church in Shipton.
