Almost 30 years have passed – but the shirt has remained.

Shropshire’s Sybil Ruscoe was back with radio presenter Simon Mayo on his drivetime show as part of a 1980s reunion.

The 56-year-old, from Wem, was a fixture on Mayo’s early morning show on Radio One in the late 1980s.

As part of a reunion to mark Red Nose Day, she returned for an appearance on his afternoon show on Radio Two. Simon, 58, dug out the same garish shirt he wore for a 1980s photo shoot with Sybil and the two spoke on air about their on-air relationship many years ago.

“I was just a Shropshire lass making my way in the big city of London,” said Sybil, who now works on Radio Four’s Farming Today show.

Simon joked that his sidekick used to “go on a bit” about her home town of Wem when they were together on Radio One.

And Sybil used the opportunity to introduce a Rick Astley classic by telling listeners: “This song is dedicated for everyone who used to go to the Buttermarket in Shrewsbury in the 80s.”
