Telford zoo welcomes baby lambs

With the arrival of spring and Easter, many think of chocolate eggs, the Easter Bunny and animals having their young.

The Exotic Zoo at the Lakeside Plant Centre on Woodhouse Lane in Priorslee has certainly got plenty of the latter with the arrival of five baby lambs – Louie, Wilfred , Rupert, Stella and Colin. The little orphan lambs have been adopted by the wildlife park from a local farm, and range between five days and two weeks old.

Scott Adams from the zoo said: "They've settled in really nicely. They're following the staff around and they're running around in the fields which means they must really like their new surroundings. It is perfect timing for us because they should be ready to be seen by the public just as we open again for Easter."

But it's not all cute animals – newborn lambs take a lot of work. They're going to take round the clock care," Scott said.

"They need to be bottle fed. When they're older, they will go in our farm section." The Exotic Zoo's new home at the plant centre is now open to visitors for the first time, as a "sneak peak" before officially opening in the summer. As well as the lambs, there will be the chance to see a whole range of Easter animals, including baby chicks.

Building work has been going on at the site as they work to ensure animal enclosures are finished ahead of the lease ending on their old property in Donnington.

The zoo will be open until April 23. Admission is £2.
