People from across the county will be able to explore the Wollerton Old Hall Garden, near Market Drayton, from Good Friday.

The four-acre garden, created around a 16th century house, has many different colour-themed garden "rooms".

The garden has been designed and developed by Lesley and John Jenkins since 1984. It is intensely cultivated and depending upon plant interest, visits can take between two and four hours.

Head gardener Phil Smith is a passionate horticulturalist with previous positions at Ragley Hall and Winterbourne House. Assistant gardener Belinda Howarth has gardened for the National Trust at Attingham Park and Powis Castle for several years.

This year the garden has an extensive list of speakers coming to the attraction. The first one is Sir Roy Strong and Lesley Jenkins will be at the garden on May 17.

They will also be open on May 28, as part of the National Gardens Scheme (NGS), which raises money for charities.

This year the garden will be opening to the public on Thursday for the first time in June, July and August.

They will also be open from 12pm to 5pm on Fridays, Sundays and Bank Holidays from Good Friday until the end of August and Fridays only in September. Lucie Jenkins, garden secretary, said: "From Good Friday visitors will be able to see our new spring bulb border which has been planted with more than 1,000 different bulbs including daffodils, tulips, anemones and fritillaries."
