It was held at the Telford Cultural and Leisure Centre in Hadley on Saturday night.

People descended on the centre to enjoy Punjabi cuisine and Bhangra music by a live DJ.

The party is organised every year by volunteers from the centre and aims to bring the community together while celebrating the Sikh festival of Vaisakhi.

Amrik Singh Jhawar, who is a member of the management committee at the centre and is also chairman of Ketley Parish Council, said: "It's a celebration. "We have a little party to celebrate the Vaisakhi festival. "It's one of the major Sikh festivals in the calendar.

"We invite everyone to get together and join us here. "There's a disco and families coming here are having food and enjoying themselves.

"The centre has been putting the event on for the past 10 to 15 years. "We always get a good gathering."

The Vaisakhi festival is the Sikh New Year festival and is usually celebrated on April 13 or 14.

It also commemorates 1699, the year Sikhism was born as a collective faith.
