Polish event held in West Bromwich to help create a better community understanding
An evening to celebrate the polish culture took place in West Bromwich.
The Polish Expats Association and Creative Black Country held the Polish Heritage Day at the Town Hall to celebrate openness, appreciation and better understanding between different communities in the Black Country.
The event was part of the Polish Heritage Day initiative by the Polish Embassy in London along with over 40 events planned across the UK and saw people enjoy traditional folk papercut workshops, craft stalls and live music.
Taking place on May 6 and 7 and intended as an annual festival, Polish Heritage Day takes place after the symbolic date of May 3, when in 1791 Poland proclaimed its modern codified constitution as the first country in Europe and the second in the world after the United States – a symbol of freedom and equality.
May 2 is also celebrated in Poland and in Polish communities around the world as the Polish Diaspora Day and Polish Flag Day.
The free West Bromwich event, which took place on May 6, included an exhibition, From Exile to Freedom.
The exhibition presented stories of different generations of Polish migrants from over the years.
