Special guest to open Ludstone Hall car show

The event is being held as part of the annual open day at Ludstone Hall in Claverley, to raise money for the parish church.

Two special guests will be on hand officially open the event on June 4, starting at 11am.

There are already 40 classic cars confirmed to attend the event, from an over 100-year-old Cadillac to a 1926 Sunbeam sports and a 1950s F1 Cooper.

Anthony Fenwick-Wilson, who is organising the car rally, said he was delighted to have secured the special guests, whose names are being kept under-wraps.

He said: "We have a variety of different motor cars, I will be bringing my racing cars and an old Bentley.

"It is all part and parcel of the annual open day at Ludstone Hall."

Ludstone Hall is steeped in history, with the original building dating back to 1098, today's hall was built in 1607.

Each year, the 400-year-old mansion is opened to visitors for one day, where they can explore its 10 acres of land and see its fishing pool and a moat and enjoy the fete.

Bought by Poundland founder Keith Smith in 1997, the £2million mansion also has a museum within the grounds which covers Mr Smith's rise from Hooties Cash and Carry in Bilston to the Poundland empire he created with his son, Steve, before selling up in 2012.

Entry costs £4 and is free for children with all proceeds going to All Saints Church in Claverley.
