Trefonen Hillwalk to take place this weekend
Villagers are set to lace up their walking boots and enjoy a weekend of walks and activities, while raising money for charity.
The annual Trefonen Hillwalk is back this Bank Holiday weekend, with a host of walks and events for all the family.
Throughout the weekend, there will be a variety of activities to raise money for the charities, kicking off with a 10 and 16-mile walk on Saturday, as well as motorbike trials and a quiz.
While on Sunday, there is a family service at Trefonen Church, as well as a hill run followed by a duck race and barbecue.
Monday will offer a day of family walks, followed by a ceilidh in the evening.
Before the event, 12 people from the area took part in the 'Long Walk Home' – an excruciating walk from Snowden back to Trefonen to raise funds for two charities – Medecins Sans Frontieres and Shropshire MIND.
The walkers covered a distance of 1,000km over the space on four days.
While elsewhere in the village and before the weekend of walks kicks off, the Wizard of Oz is being performed at the All Saints Church, tonight and tomorrow, starting at 6pm.
One of the event's organisers Helen Francis said to show support of the performance, characters from the show were up in the centre of the village, proving a real talking point in the village.
She said: "We're all really looking forward to this weekend's event now.
"We hope everyone who can, comes along and enjoys the weekend, while also raising money for two extremely worthy causes.
"There will be something for everyone, whether that's the walks or the barbecue and duck race.
"It's also great to see people enjoying what's happening in the village at the moment, with the hillwalk this weekend but also the Wizard of Oz being performed in the village this week. We've got the characters up, which is really grabbing people's attention."
