Telford church to launch music festival
Singing groups are lining up to perform at a church which will launch its own music festival next month.
Festival of the Voice will be staged at the newly renovated Christ Church, in Wellington, on five evenings during June and July.
Local singing groups will be performing in the shows, which all start at 7.30pm.
Church organist Bob Wysome came up with the idea for the festival.
He said: "The church has recently been renovated and the vicar of Christ Church is keen to use the building for community purposes.
"The festival will display the variety and versatility of the human voice across various musical styles.
"It will also show off the wonderful acoustics of the church.
"We have invited local groups to showcase their talents."
The music festival will kick-off on June 3 with a performance by the Telfordaires.
New College Chorale will perform alongside the Wrekin & Telford Singers on June 10.
There will be a performance by Three Men in a Bow Tie on July 1, The Midlands Chorale will sing on July 8 and the Shifnal Male Voice Choir is due to perform on July 15.
Mr Wysome said: "It's a new idea. If it is successful we would hope to do a music festival again next year. "We are looking forward to the first event coming up.
"It will be a good mix.
"The groups performing have been very keen.
"We have a lot of talent in the area and it is a chance for people to see what good things are going on in the music world in Telford."
The church holds about 200 people.
Tickets, costing £7.50, will be available on the door at the events.
