Whitchurch pub wins prestigious award
A pub based on the Shropshire border has won a prestigious award.
The Cholmondeley Arms, based near Whitchurch, has been voted the 'best pub in the north west' at the Pub and Bar Magazine Awards at BAFTA in London.
The pub, located on Lord Cholmondeley's estate next to Cholmondeley Castle gardens, re-opened in 2011 after a period of significant restoration work on this famous, former 19th-century Victorian school house, by Cheshire pub entrepreneurs Tim Bird and Mary Mclaughlin.
Mr Bird said: "It is a substantial achievement and reflects all the hard work and dedication our team put into the pub on a daily basis.
"Having won the same award for one of our other pubs, the Church Inn in Mobberley last year, we're proud to have done the double."
The judges were impressed with the pub's food act, particularly the seasonal menu and the excellent dishes cooked by head chef Tom Richards and his team.
