Proms in park proves a hit
A mix of musical talent entertained families at a proms in the park event.
The event, at the British Ironwork Centre near Oswestry, has been hailed a success by its organisers.
Guests were invited to take a picnic and a blanket to sit on the lawns of the tourist attraction to enjoy the spectacle on Saturday.
Pre-show performances by the Clwyd Clipper and Lilly Whitehurst set the atmosphere before the Wrexham Symphony Orchestra played classical favourites.
The event ended with a fireworks finale.
A post on the British Ironwork Centre Facebook page stated: “Tonight was sensational – already planning next year’s proms, always going to aim higher. Roll on 2018!
“Huge thank you to so many that made this possible.”
To allow the event to take place roadworks on one of Shropshire’s busiest roads were suspended at the weekend.
Overnight closures on the A5 had threatened to put the evening in jeopardy with fears that the concert audience and the orchestra would be unable to get to the centre, which exits onto the A5.
But Highways England confirmed that roadworks on the scheme would not go ahead at the weekend.
