A big effort will be made to stop the bride from looking ‘ruff’ – as two pampered pooches will tie the knot as part of Dorothy Clive Garden's annual Canine Capers event.

The garden, which is based near Market Drayton, will host the event on July 23 from 10am to 5.30pm.

The furry couple will be chosen via a special Facebook competition.

The dog wedding will take place at 2pm in the garden's outdoor wedding venue setting 'The Belvedere' and will feature a dog couple, plus bridesmaids Elsa and Rosie the Jack Russell.

Volunteer event organiser, Julia Jones, said "New and exciting for this year will be a very special dog wedding.

"Our outdoor wedding venue will be transformed by Natalie of Mason & Jenkinson venue dressers and the ceremony on the day will be photographed by local professional photographer Julia Stanley. We will be inviting event goers to be our guest for this special occasion.

"We are running a canine wedding competition to find our 'happy couple'. If you have a dog who has fallen in love please visit our Facebook page and enter the competition posting a photo of 'the happy couple', telling us a bit about how they met and their unique love story. Dogs and owners must be available on July 23. The winner will be chosen on July 14.

''Also, dog owners are encouraged to bring their dogs along to the event and participate in fun agility courses and a dog show. Dogs and owners can team up to sniff out a treat in the unique 'Toto's Treasure Trail'. There will also be dog related stalls to browse as well as talks and demos."
